Trailhead is immediately off hwy 242. Trail starts with some surrounding trees and then quickly turns into exposed lava field. The cool, partly cloudy conditions made for great hiking weather – definitely would not hike this during the summer with how exposed it is. Watched The Hills have Eyes the night prior to the hike which I don't recommend (given the landscape of the lava fields 😬).
