Half of my group took Pumpkin Trail to the peak but my partner and I had bad directions and started on the other side of Kendrick Mountain. We took Kendrick Trail to the top. We think we got the better deal because when we met the others at the fire tower, they complained of heat and a lot of Sun exposure. Apparently a fire had taken out a lot of the forest cover on the Pumpkin Trail side. Our side, Kendrick Trail, was scenic, with adequate shade for a warm morning, and beautiful panoramic views on the many switchbacks as we made our way to the peak. 😀
This was my highest elevation climb, at 10,418′. I didn't have altitude sickness, so I feel more prepared for Humphrey's, at 12,6533′. I did see Humphrey's at the summit, so I'm excited to go after my biggest AZ challenge!
