A few firsts for me- First off Trail Angles were busy today handing out all sorts of great food and beverages at the trailhead, Second, walking miles of lava stone trail- my lower legs and feet are sore- 3rd, hiking the tallest sand dune like mountain to the summit, and what made all it so much fun!  I met a mountain goat hiking parallel with me to the top!!! I let it go first as it kept an eye on me, then it stopped on the true Summit a d just looked around for over 5 minutes before it went down into the actual crater area.  Enjoyed the whole day.  Definitely take gaiters and hiking sticks with rubber feet on them.  Wear sunscreen and drink lots of water.  It was quite hot walking through the lava fields- the wind was wonderful at keeping the bees and flies less active.  Once the goat moved on i went to the true summit and tried getting a photo with the 3 sisters in the background but the sun was not in the right spot – anyway i think that will probably  be my one and only hike to the top of Belknap- enjoyed exploring that Summit but its definitely a 1x deal for me, too much lava stone, sand, and i was a bit dehydrated even with 3 liters of water.
