Decided to do this one today to knock a summit off the list for two challenges: The Six Pack of Peaks and The Big Butte Challenge! Trail was in good condition. Weather was perfect for the end of June… mid 60's and partly cloudy with a slight breeze. Couldn't ask for better! Went and fished the Metolius in the morning then headed up to the trailhead about noon. Made it on the trail by about 1pm with my wife, brother-in-law, and nephew. Packing an 18 month old in a backpack carrier made for slow going but we mustered through and glad we did… the views were awesome! Took a nice break at the viewpoint up top and let the little guy stretch his legs and have a snack. Headed back down about 3pm and made good time on the downhill stretch. Back to the trailhead by 4pm and headed to Bend to cash in our Big Butte Challenge beer token at Deschutes Brewing! All in all, great day for a hike and we definitely glad we chose to hike Black Butte!
