Lovely weather for hiking today. We started at the lower trailhead at 0920, the sun was just breaking through the clouds and it was reasonably cool for the march up (and it is only up) to the summit of Black Butte.
We had lunch by the cupola but made it quick because the wind was picking up and it was getting a little chilly. Nevertheless, the view was stunning. It was completely clear from the Sisters all the way around to Mount Hood. The view towards Bend and Newberry was a little hazy, but our focus was on the big ‘uns close by.
The trip down was relatively quick and certainly made easier with trekking poles. Although the trail was completely dry and free from snow, it was dusty and a little slippy in places. Otherwise it was relatively easy going.
