We hiked Black Crater on September 14th. Part of McKenzie Highway was still closed due to wildfires, but we were able to reach the trailhead driving from Sisters without any issues. It was very clear day and we didn’t smell any smoke at all. It was our second time hiking this trail and I was happy to see that the burned forest at the first part of the trail started to recover. We saw lots of small trees and bushes. Be prepared for very windy conditions at the summit and wear layers. Temperatures are much lower at the top and wind only makes it worse. Views are amazing and there is plenty of flat space to walk around and enjoy views from different sides. It took us about 3.5 hours to complete this hike.
