Another perfect hiking day. The road to Bonanza is getting sketchier so don't drive your sedan. Saw only one group on the trail which is still full of blooming wildflowers. The only unexpected event was the horse tax. Upon leaving we came across a group of wild horses hanging out on the side of the road, with a mama horse standing directly in the road. Her expression was a definitve “None shall pass.”(turns out her baby was standing a bit down the road as well) After a brief staredown with mama we decided to give her an offering. I know you're not supposed to feed wild horses but I wasn't sure how to get a horse to move cuz I'm not a cowboy. Anyway as soon as I flung some treats onto the side of the road mama sauntered over to investigate and our path was cleared. We then slowly and respectfully drove past the horse gang. So be advised, don't eat all of your food on the trail or you won't be able to pay the horse tax.
