Easy and beautiful drive into the Cuyamaca wilderness. There is plenty of parking at the trailhead & campground. Be mindful that there is a fee to park your vehicle there. I think it was about 8 dollars for a single vehicle if I remember correctly. There are also restrooms on site.
The trailhead begins near the Paso Picacho Campground. I started the trail in reverse by going up Lookout Road and eventually looping back down to Azalea Glen trail, through the Conejos Trail connector.
Not going to lie. The way up requires serious endurance and stamina. I found myself out of breath multiple times with my heart rate off the charts. Be prepared for a staggering walk.
The weather was fantastic as it was in the mid 60s in the morning and about 72 by the time I finished. Gradually more windy as I made my way to the peak. Recommend bringing a windbreaker or something to help with the wind.
The view was of course phenomenal. You get a fantastic 360 view of most of San Diego county. Saw plenty of critters and wildlife on my way back down. About 4 deer jumped out of the trees on the Conejos Trail connector on my way to the Azalea Glen trail.
All in all this mountain is incredible and the trails were not too packed. My total moving time was 2 hours and 45 minutes. Started at 8am and ended at about almost 11am.
