We got to the trailhead around 10 am for a leisurely start. We were worried that the late start would mean relentless sun and excessive heat, but we got lucky and there were cool temperatures for most of the hike due to thick cloud cover. We made it up to the peak no problem, though the last ~0.3 miles after the turnoff to the peak were very steep. I imagine this section could be a bit miserable on a very hot day.
We got to the peak in the early afternoon. The view wasn't spectacular, due to the aforementioned clouds, but it was neat to think that we had in fact hiked up into a cloud—a concept that was fantastical to me when I was a child, and still holds some magic as an adult.
At the top, we met a Spanish-speaking couple, one of whom said something along the lines of “I'm ready for a beer” in Spanish. My partner caught on and replied “Yo tambien,” at which point the guy reached into his backpack, pulled out a tallboy, and offered one to us. We were joking, obviously, but it was super nice of him to offer one of the beers that he'd hauled up. Enjoying an ice cold Modelo with friendly strangers in the clouds is the inspiration behind the name of this post (I hope my Spanish makes sense, I'm not good at it, haha).
The clouds parted on the way down, at which point bugs came out in swarms (there had been no bugs up to that point) and the heat picked up a bit. But we were on the way downhill, and the views of the scenery opened up. Overall, it was a great hike and a great day!
