Hiked on September 30, though some weather hit during our hike. Trail to the Horse Camp was simple, and we enjoyed the Olberman’s causeway all the way from Horse Camp to the foot of the step hike of Helen Lake. The causeway is impressive, with stones placed carefully to highlight the path.
Just as we hit the steeper part, the weather turned and it began to drizzle. Soon the drizzle turned to snow and the snow began to stick. The trail winded through many switchbacks and soon we had about 3 inches of fresh snow.
My AllTrails app led us incorrectly across some talus field, yet after a 45 minute detour we came back to the trail and made it to the top.
This was our most challenging hike to date, and unfortunately we didn’t get any views due to the weather. We only met one other couple in the trail. Definitely a grueling hike yet I think we will be back when the weather is better!
