Left work a bit early to hike El Cajon (the box) Mt, but probably under estimated the time needed. I carried all of my water, but thankful for the life-saving water stations that were available if I had needed it. By the time I started, it was past the hot part of the day. I only saw 1 other hiker. There were several washed out deep ruts and a few sandy and slippery sections. I reached peak just past sunset and the trail reflectors at the top were very helpful in avoiding false trails getting to and from the peak. I caught a panoramic that contained moon rise and sunset, quite amazing views. On the way down, I hiked through the clouds and the misty environment brought out the toads, tarantulas, and few screech owls that I never saw.
Overall a great workout and good practice for the Mt Whitney summit hike.
