I don't understand why blazes are inconsistently used in the hiking community. I wasn't able to find a reliable website for checking in on trail conditions while in AZ, which was a bit frustrating. In NH we have a few reliable sites that are hiker-maintained and super helpful. This day was a SLOG and filled with a few off trail miles – some of those due to the “choose your own adventure” footpaths ALL over the mountain and others due to the mashed potato MUSH left on the mountain. Hiking out was the best part of the day as we were able to butt sled over the icy bumps, making for a lot fewer postholes!
