Deseret Peak was another first for me. It is far less trafficked than many hiking trails in the Wasatch Mountains. It was definitely different than the other Six Packs of Peaks hikes I've done thus far this year, but beautiful in its own right. The trail is in great shape but be sure to follow a map closely. We ended up on what seemed like the obvious trail about ½ mile in and we took a very challenging bushwhacking detour to get back on track. Although not terribly steep the whole way, it's a steady incline without much reprieve. A very strong and consistent wind pummeled us once we reached the saddle and then again between the ridge and the saddle to the point where it nearly knocked us over a few times. I'm glad I brought my windbreaker but gloves would've been nice There is very cool geology on the higher elevations. Fantastic views!
