This one was a late afternoon hike. At the gate while paying for my parking at Paso Picacho Campground, the ranger misunderstood me and thought I was asking about the Stonewall Trail since when I asked for confirmation, she said that the trail is “across the street”. Fortunately, a look at my printed map, confirmed that Lookout Fire Road was south of the gate and not across the street. (Later I found out that Lookout Fire Road was accessible from the campgrounds without having to exit Paso Picacho but it wouldn't have made a difference). A second ranger at the Lookout Fire Road confirmed that I was on the right track and confirmed the direction of Lookout Fire Road to the summit. The weather was good and although it was hot it was manageable. The bugs though were a different story. Especially at the summit. They were swarming. I didn't go up first to where the buildings were but later before heading down, I headed uphill to where teh buildings were and took a few photos. I liked the views from the trail below better than the ones by the buildings. The hike down was uneventful. One hiker heading up gave me a heads up about a rattler on the trail but by the time I had reached the area he mentioned, it was gone. I reentered the campground and then headed back to my car.
