The Ice house canyon trail is mostly shaded, as it runs along the icehouse creek for the first 2.8 miles. The ascent to Icehouse Canyon saddle is gradual and unrelenting, climbing 2620′ until you hit the 3.4 mile mark. Stop at the saddle for a good 20-30 minutes to gear up for the next 2.7 miles to the summit. At this point, many switchbacks are on the horizon and the heat will start to bear down on you. Be sure to stay hydrated throughout this hike. The Cucamonga peak trail stays level until it descends a bit the first 0.5 miles or so. Eventually, the climb up to the peak begins and you gain 1279′ of elevation before hitting a total height of 8859′. The views from Cucamonga peak are amazing, and the sense of accomplishment is priceless.
