We started the 2024 Six Pack Of Peaks Challenge San Diego with the toughest peak. LOL. To get it out of the way!!
Great hike. Cool views along the way. It's up and down out and back. The last mile or so is a serious scramble through the boulders to the top. There's not much space on the top.
Hiked with another challenger, my friend Ann. Started early at 6 am. There were not many hikers at that time. It seemed that everyone else started when the main parking opened at 7 am! We parked on the side of the road right by the parking lot and it was perfect.
The whole trail is very well-marked. Right at mile 3 by the stop sign, there's an opportunity to turn around and head back because the hike becomes serious for the remaining 3 miles up to the top.
It took us 6 and a half hours with plenty of time to take pictures and rest on top. We also visited the mines. It is literally a few hundred yards detour. Easy peasy!!
