We undertook a challenging yet rewarding hike to Mt. Sizer and back, starting from the Manzanita Parking Lot. The original plan was to hike Mount St Helena but due to the weather conditions that showed as all day showers we decided on Mt Sizer. Well, this is considered one of the steepest trails in the Bay Area gaining 3.600 or so with vertical elevation in about 13.50 miles.
The route, via Monument Trail and Hobson Road, offered a mix of steep ascents, tranquil woodland stretches, and panoramic vistas. With a start time of 7:51 AM, the crisp winter morning added a refreshing touch to the adventure. This hike was a test of physical and mental endurance, but the stunning views and sense of achievement made it an unforgettable experience. indeed the steep climbs and peaceful scenery offered the perfect balance of challenge and beauty.
The climb especially the “Big Burn” section was strenuous and thus offered a sense of accomplishment on completion.
Tips: Start early; Pace your self on the steep sections; Wear sturdy, waterproof hiking boo; carry at least 2.5 liters of water, enough energy snacks; trekking poles will be very helpful; do not forget a first and kit.
Btw this concluded my 6 peaks for the year 2024 ! It was a great one…!!
