We arrived at approximately 5:45 a.m. in order to beat the heat as we are familiar with this hike! The parking lot doesn't open until 8:00 a.m. so we parked on the wide shoulder of the street, there were already several cars there, at least a dozen. Luckily we had an overcast day until just before the summit, and boy did it heat up after that. It's a HARD HIKE! But the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. The summit area is quite big, so lots of room to spread out. We saw a fair amount of people, but I wouldn't say it was “crowded” A word to first timers: start as early as you possibly can, it's a LONG day and a lot of ups and downs both ways, so not a lot of rest time. Take MORE water than you think you'll need (I took 3 liters) and take electrolytes and snacks or power gels. This hike takes a LOT out of you! But be sure to stop and enjoy the views, it's gorgeous!!!
