A cool and challenging hike, very brushy and easy to get off trail – the downloaded map came in clutch more than once. Didn’t see any rattlers but thought we heard them a couple times.
Started at around 10 AM on a Saturday – there were a couple other cars at the trailhead but only saw three other groups the entire hike. It definitely got warm, and plenty of water/electrolytes were a must.
We ate lunch sitting on the summit and took in the awesome vista, watched the lizards doing pushups on the rocks and crows riding the thermals below us (while also getting dive-bombed at speed by other birds – not sure what they were, but it was a unique experience).
The return downhill was surprisingly tiring and we all got a couple angry toenails for our efforts. Overall, some good Type II fun.
