Park on the side of the road on turnout. (A dirt road). The trail head is not clearly marked. Look for some signs from the Forest Service saying “no motor vehicle allowed“ that will be the trail head. There’s also a Gate right next to it blocking access to the road that is the beginning of the trail that says it’s private property but you are apparently allowed to hike around the gate (past the signs I mentioned and walk up the road until a point where the trail starts. Going up the trail:. The worst thing is that there are tons of horseflies and other bugs that bite you. They are ubiquitous. I would suggest deet , long sleeve shirt, long sleeve pants, hat, maybe mosquito net. The trail is steep, rugged and slippery and places. The trails is also extremely narrow in places with shoulder/head high Manzanita and Sage shrubs, on either side so you’ll need a long sleeve shirt and pants to protect yourself from being scratched; also watch yourself about being poked by branches. When you do get to the top, it is a spectacular view when you sit on the edge of the cliff the wind keeps the bugs away and you get a tremendous few south into Mexico in the mountains around Tecate and see pine trees up in the mountains. It’s very pretty. It’s worth doing the hike once. I’m not sure I would do it again. it is ranked hard and that is probably correct. I was pretty tired when I was done.
