The biting flies were bad, even with bug spray. The gnats in shady areas were annoying, but not too bad. This is definitely a trail for long pants and long sleeves. The single track parts are quite narrow with brush (and poison oak in parts). We did see birds, bunnies (driving to the trailhead), butterflies, and lots of wildflowers. I wasn't a fan of the steep, rocky parts of the trail. Because of the flies and heat, hiking this trail at a different time of year might be more enjoyable, but I'm glad I did it!
