For the second time in two years, an end-of-year hike to Sitton Peak completes my Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. Last year was out of necessity because the higher peaks were already covered with snow. This year, with the higher peaks still there for the taking, the plan was to end it with any of the big-name peaks like Mt Baldy or Cucamonga. However, Covid played Grinch a few days before Christmas and took with it my high elevation hiking plans. Post-Covid recovery and elevation greater than 8000 feet don’t belong in the same sentence. So less than a week out from when I had my first Covid  symptoms, my wife (aka my best hiking buddy) and I drove to the Bear Canyon Trailhead. Even at less than 3000 feet, I could still feel the effects of Covid breathing-wise. It took me longer to finish the close to 10-mile hike than the similar distance I hiked at more than 8500 feet three weeks prior to Mt San Jacinto. But Covid be damned, Sitton Peak has helped me finish my second consecutive SoCal Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. Now on to 2023’s SoCal Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge!
