Arrived at the parking area around 9am. Conditions were perfect, mild with a slight cloud cover about 50 degrees at the base. My itinerary for the day was to summit via White Dot and take White Arrow down and connect to Cliff Walk via Hello Rock trail. From Cliff Walk I'd pick up Parker trail back to the parking lot. Within the first 5 minutes of being on the trail, I heard the rustling of leaves off to the right and when I looked to see what the noise was a Coyote darted across the trail about 20 feet in front of me. It was a beautiful sight. I very , very rarely see animals on trail other than squirrels , chipmunks and occasionally porcupines and this was quite exciting to see.
I took my time getting to the summit and once there enjoyed a snack and the amazing panoramic views. After about 15 minutes or so I started my journey back down the White Arrow trail. Took my time there as well due to the terrain. Quite steep. I enjoyed this trail very much, though. I ended up at the Halfway House site and realized I missed the trailhead for the Hello Rock connecting trail. I backtracked and couldn't seem to find the trail so I began to explore the ruins of the site and eventually I located the trailhead. It was tucked away in a corner of the grassy lot. I started back into the woods and found the trail to be not well maintained and there were only two signs (that I could see)indicating which way to proceed so I made the decision to turn around before I got lost and take the access road from the park headquarters down to the Parker trail which would lead me back to the main parking area.
Good hike all around.
Note: if planning a visit call ahead you may need reservations to park
