We had beautiful weather today. We got to the (almost full) parking lot around 6:45, and it was around 50 degrees.
The hike to Icehouse Saddle was fine- no snow to speak of and it was cool and bug-free. From the saddle up to Cucamonga there were patches of snow that were sometimes difficult to navigate. We had micro spikes that we put on/took off a number of times. Navigation was a bit of a challenge- I was using Gaia GPS, and my wife was using All Trails and we still managed to go off course a few times. Due to the snow and a lot of footprints going every which way, we ended up taking a “short cut” both going up and coming back down. I wish we had waited a week or so for the snow to melt to avoid those mistakes, but overall it was very manageable.
The view from the peak was spectacular- we loved getting a peek at some of our upcoming peaks.
