I did this peak as a part of a triple peak adventure. I had been looking at different options for hikes and came across a Cucamonga, Bighorn and Ontario track that seemed to be quite the adventure. I started early (just before 6am) and the lot was almost full. Lots of people were out for a hike but to my surprise, most headed towards Ontario Peak at the saddle. I chose Cucamonga as the first peak and then went cross-country on a lightly used trail to Bighorn and finally over to Ontario.
The hike was quite tough although enjoyable. I got a lot of solitude on the middle part of the hike and even on Ontario as most of the traffic had left. The return was good too. The trail itself was in good condition but rocky, as you might expect. The weather was beautiful. Sunny all day and the breeze at the peaks was quite refreshing.
This CBO hike is not for everyone. It is definitely a strenuous hike. Be prepared, bring plenty of water and always have the 10 essentials with you and tell someone about your plan. Cell service was mostly non-existent but I could get signal on the peaks to check in.
