We arrived at about 5:45am on Sunday 6/9, to find only a few spots left in the lot. We filled out a wilderness permit at the self serve box at the trailhead and were on our way. (We tried calling the ranger station the day before to get a permit, as recommended on AllTrails, but they didn’t answer or return our message. But the self serve box at the trailhead is definitely the way to go now that it’s an option).
This trail offers some incredible views along the way and at the peak, and is a nice steady climb, but the trail is very rocky and hard to follow at times. There were a lot of people coming up as we started down, and pulling to the side of the narrow, rocky trail wasn’t always easy. Our climb down took much longer than it otherwise would have because of the crowd.
There were a couple of small patches of snow, but none covering the trail. The temperature for our climb up was great, with plenty of shade along the way, but it got very hot on our way down. Definitely recommend an early start for this one if it’ll be a hot day.
