Cucamonga But No Etiwanda

I really wanted to bag Etiwanda Peak on this hike but the last stretch to the summit, and in the snow, required a bit more juice than I anticipated. I was debating bringing the microspikes on this hike and was glad I decided to put them in my pack. Only the last mile or so required their use. I was at a loss as to why other hikers would risk their lives hiking that last mile without them, and there were even some in tennis shoes. Thankfully I wound up seeing them on the summit and hoped the others were smart enough to head back down. This was my second snow hike and I was rewarded with some crystal clear views and spring-like weather at the summit. There were also very few people on the trail for a Saturday, and I got to have a slice of the peak to myself for about twenty minutes. Ths was my first summit of Cucamonga Peak this year, but certainly not my last. I'll be back to bag Etiwanda next time. Three down so far, five more to go. Up next, Ontario Peak!
