The first time I hiked Cucamonga a few years ago, I was blown away by how much I loved the hike! I was also totally on edge about hiking across the side of a mountain, especially in the sections with just small rocks. This hike was my second time hiking Cucamonga and I couldn't believe how normal it all felt (I've become a much more experienced hiker in the meantime). Icehouse canyon was delightful, and the entire hike had few people on it — the joys of hiking on a Monday, I suppose. Even though it was a hot summer day we started at 7 am and were shaded most of the time. Not bad! The top of the peak was peaceful and the air was surprisingly clear — we could see Catalina, which we didn't expect to happen in August. This remains a favorite SoCal hike. Trees were looking good, the bees were active, and we even saw a couple of mule deer enjoying the fresh water in the canyon.
