A few days ago, I did 13 miles total and hiked Cucamonga Peak. I think it was my favorite peak yet. The weather was perfect and the views were awesome. I have to say there were a lot of good people on the trail day. There was a 68 year old with no water, no map, no light, who had hiked a good 4 miles and had at least another 4 left to get back. A bunch of us on the trail ran into him and we all filled his water bottle. It was getting dark and he was really struggling so one of the hikers went back for him. I waited for them near the trailhead for an hour and it was completely dark by the time they came down. I almost hit my SOS button but thankfully he was just fine, if not pretty tired. So glad it didn't have a different outcome because he was lost and without water, only okay because he kept running into people who gave him some of theirs and sent him on the right path and ultimately made sure he got out safely.
So please, be safe out there! Google the ten essentials and keep them on you when hike.
