We knew there was gale force winds at higher elevations, but decided to go for it and see how far we could get. While the winds were really strong at the peak, I was so glad we went for it, as it was an amazing climb. We did the “Icehouse Canyon to Cucamonga Peak trail.” This is nearly 12 miles of intense hiking made more difficult by the slick ice and the struggle to find the trail at times.
While our group all had crampons, we found the trail passable enough with micro-spikes. we put the crampons on at the Icehouse Saddle, and that was sufficient for the climb.
This climb was intense with its 4300+ ft of elevation game, but if you are looking for your next challenge, I don't think you could beat the scenery of this hike. if you are ready to hike in spikes and looking for your next challenge, I'd highly recommend going for this one… or see you at Mt Baldy next weekend
