My son Dewey and I arrived at Icehouse Canyon parking lot at 6:45am and was able to get one of the last remaining parking spots. We put on our boots and sun screen and hit the trail by 7am.
The hike up to the saddle was very comfortable. Just as we approached the saddle, we got a blast of sunshine in our face for the first time. We had a quick snack at the saddle and got back on the trail to Cucamonga.
We noticed a large number of people coming down from Cucamonga Peak with full backpacks, so I inquired. Apparently, a large group of people took advantage of the full moon and spend Saturday night talking in the night views.
Dewey and I reached the summit in 3 hours. We took our summit pics, ate lunch in the shade and then headed back down. By the time we reached the saddle again, I could feel a blister forming on my big toe so we stopped to fix that problem before it got worse.
We were back to the car by 1:30pm where we had an ice cold beer and chips and guacamole waiting.
