This was my first hike in almost a year and my first hike up Cucamonga Peak ever. Apparently Covid-19 has taken a toll on my legs, but I did make it. It was a great day for a hike with comfortable temperatures and blue skies with almost no clouds. We left out of Icehouse Canyon and I could tell within a couple of miles that my legs were going to struggle. I have been doing a lot of street bike riding (100+ miles per week) but no gym. In the past, as I prepared for hikes I would hit the gym and spent a lot of time on the treadmill and (probably more importantly) the stair stepper, but that's not currently available. I did make it to the top for some great views of the dessert and the Inland Valley. By time we got back into Icehouse Canyon going down, my legs were running out of gas and the last couple miles were a real struggle, but obviously I made it.
My work schedule is such right now that I have every other Friday off and I'm going to try to use most of those for other hikes. I haven't decided which peak is next, but I think I may try Mt. Baldy, I've been up that one several times in the past.
