Back in 2020, my friends and I set out to complete a little challenge known as ECBO(S), which consists of summiting five different peaks in one outing (Etiwanda, Cucamonga, Bighorn, Ontario and Sugarloaf). While I am more than happy that we partook in such a venture, I do not need to attempt that ever again.
Yesterday, I decided to enjoy a slightly more leisurely trek by climbing just one of the aforementioned five — Cucamonga Peak from Icehouse Canyon. This trail is as scenic as they come in the Angeles National Forest and leads to what is known as the Cucamonga Wilderness.
After summiting the no-switchback nonsense that is Mount Wilson two weeks ago, I was ecstatic to experience a plethora of them en route to the peak. The views were also extraordinary — especially, Mount Baldy in the distance.
The trail itself was quite crowded (not too surprising being a Saturday and all), but it didn’t take away from a very rewarding hike.
