It rained a little the day before and into the morning, so by the time I started my dawn hike everything was nice, clean and shiny. The trees and plants were very fragrant especially the pines. I opted for the Lookout Fire Road up and back because it's 100% paved and I didn't want to damage other trails if muddy, and maybe because I left my Merrell hikers at home and only had my Saucony runners and didn't want to mess them up. A small sign at the trailhead said access to the peak was closed, but when I got to the peak there was no barrier and nothing to suggest it was closed. I snapped a few cool sunrise pics on the way up, but the peak was in the clouds so those pics ended up kind of dull. I'm glad I layered up, because it was quite a chilly morning with the weather apps saying high 30's.
