I loved this trail!! It couldn't be better if I designed it myself! Challenging incline, lots of crunch of varying degrees, and astounding mountain views! It started easy enough, getting a bit of an incline around the 1 mile mark. A little granola to add some crunch to the trail, and the incline gradually getting steeper around 1.5 mile. Around the 2 mile mark, there is a stretch of fire road, but at around 2.5 mile, keep your eyes peeled for the Conejo Trail or you'll miss it. For the next 1.5 miles or so is a series of small switchbacks and an incline of 10%+. The last bit of the ascent is about 0.5 mile of gradual incline until you hit the (steep) paved fire road. If the incline on the switchbacks didn't get you, this will!! Approaching a 20% grade, it will make you appreciate the absolutely breathtaking views from the peak!!
The wood plaque and log book box is up above the “landing spot” in the trees back by the antennae station. You need to do a little exploring to find it and the surveyor mark.
Although it did cross my mind to take the Azalea Loop back, I took the fire road back to the trailhead and it was everything you'd expect.
