I arrived at the campground parking around 4:30 pm in an attempt to catch the sunset at the peak. It was $10 to park. I spoke to the ranger who informed me that the fire road was closed. I told her I would still try and check it out and try to make it up to some look out to catch the sunset if possible. The fire road was still in good condition with no signs of construction, but the sides of the road were lined off with signs warning of environmentally protected areas. I made sure not to cross any potentially hazardous areas despite the road being technically closed. Near the top the clouds rolled in thick and the winds picked up. I saw a few other hikers on their way down. I made it to the top, where it was very cold and windy, and no visibility whatsoever. Took a few pics then ran the whole way back down. Please be aware that at the time of this writing the trail is closed due to construction at the top (even though it is still in good condition), but I made the decision to hike it anyways. So go at your own risk.
