Gorgeous day for the final climb – we completed 6 peaks for the Bay Area Challenge. We started at 8:45AM from the parking lot after paying our requisite $6. It’s an immediate up towards Twin Peaks – lovely single track along the ridge line to Eagle Peak. It was DOWNHILL to prospectors gap and a final steady climb to the summit. Bring a few $ for a treat (well-deserved) before starting down. We took a final stop for a snack and flush toilet at Juniper campground and then the long trail down Mitchell Canyon. The trail vegetation was covered with lady bugs! It was long, tough, and a wonderful way to finish out a great year of hiking. A few tips:
Do this route clockwise! The single track can be a bit technical and is easier going uphill.
Trekking poles were ideal, especially for the ridge lines.
Watch the weather! We planned our day out based on a weather window and had ideal conditions.
Bring $5 for a snack at the summit.
The walk down is long – pick your partners and get a great conversation going. We had a great time.
LOVED this challenge! Bring on 2024
