A beautiful day out in the Deseret Peak wilderness.
After some morning coffee we made the hour drive to the trailhead out West of Salt Lake. We started about 7:00 a.m. and had great weather the entire day.
I did the loop hike and went clockwise. The trail was perfect until about 1/2 mile from the saddle. Then no bueno. Lots of crawling over snowfields and searching for the trail where avalanches had taken it out. It was still very manageable.
About a 1/4 of a mile from the top I ran across a guy who was tapping out. He said his buddy was ahead up at the peak. After arriving at the peak he said that since his friend couldn’t make it, would he like to do a celebratory shot with him.
I said, of course!
The rest of the loop ended up being great as I ran into two other couples that were heading up to South Willow Lake to do overnights.
Overall, a great hike!
