Had to work earlier in the day, so got a start in the mid afternoon coming up from a friend’s house in Blackhawk. From there heading up Devil’s Slide Trail to Madrone Canyon Trail to Rock City and the South Gate Entrance. It was then a steady climb up Summit Trail. Plenty of people on the trail keeping socially distanced and wearing masks, which was reassuring. A lot of people out enjoying the New Years. Could see the snow capped peaks in the Sierras as I made the ascent. The final segment at the top was especially busy with walkers, bikers, hikers, and runners each making their way to the summit. Fairly clear skies with some whisky clouds and a crisp wind at the top.
A good way to reward myself after a day at work with peak #1 for 2021 (this was peak #6 for me last year when I finished in the dark)
