We got an early start on this one and I’m happy that we did as there was little shade and it was getting really warm on our way down. Daisy our dog was on the hike with us. She was full of excitement and a trailblazer at first. It was long though before she fell in line with her two human companions. She also received shuttle service at the top due to the lava rock. It’s a good thing she only weighs 17 pounds. This hike may not be the best for your pup unless it’s cooler and you don't mind skipping out on the very top or carrying your critter for the last, short portion of lava rock.
The trail conditions were decent. It was dusty, with a few patches of snow, and a couple of downed trees to skirt around. Wildflowers were still blooming and we saw a ton of butterflies towards the summit.
