Hey all, welcome back to my generally self deprecating satirical breakdown. Oh and a mountain too.
Needless to say after the first hike of the year not accomplishing the “3, 2, 1 challenge” at Sawmill, (according to the rest of my party) I was hell bent on making up for my navigator landnav error and hard charging up this peak. We had all climbed this a few months before and it was one of the ladies favorites.
What I remembered was a steadily increasing beginning few miles followed by an Interim downhill and capitalized by the most steep and long quarter mile final ascent of any in Cali. What happened was my gluts kicked into “please no more” mode and locked up with serious knots within the first mile and a half. That lead to a very exciting view for passers by of me lying face down by a trail marker with the ladies digging elbows into my legs and associated muscle groups. After a skilled nurse and engineer coaxed me back to life I was good to go and it was again a very pleasant hike.
take away from this one: some of the least developed and beautiful land you didn’t know existed with a stunning view from Mexico to Los Angeles. You won’t regret it!
