Hiking San Antonio (Mt Baldy) has always been a dream of mine but I never would have imagined hiking it in the snow and to be able to summit it. This was my first 10k ft elevation peak hike. The first half was steep and rocky and there was snow just right past Ski Hut, and it became rocky, steep, and slippery because the snow had started to melt which made it soft and slushy. The feeling after summiting was amazing! There was no snow at the top of the peak but it was very cold and windy with a beautiful view. Hiking poles and microspikes definitely helped especially with the slippery snow and the steep rocky areas. We had 27 people in our group but only 25 summited. One person summited but had to be airlifted shortly after descending because she was having severe cramp and altitude sickness. Fortunately everyone made it back safely. This hike was quite challenging but one of my favorite hikes so far and I will definitely return.
