Wanted to hike this one in February but the weather was uncooperative. Finally got to hike this May 11, 2024. Weather gave us sun full sign with a chill breeze starting out at 9am. That breeze soon died but the trail went through a nice shaded and wooded area, so the sun was not a factor. Trail winds for about 1.5 miles around Red Box Canyon then hairpins twice to get around the small hill in front. There are a few washed out sections, most easily walked around but one did block the trail enough to require climbing over it. Around 1.5 miles, round the curve and see your goal. And from 1.5 miles away, it looks like a very daunting incline. There are 4 false summits which can be seen. One of the summits was very technical with bouldering. The last false peak was several hundred yards from the true peak, so the motivation increased a lot to hustle up the small incline.
We were a small group of 4. One of our hikers had dressed as a Strawberry for Halloween and it seemed very fitting to haul it up with us for photos. How much fun is that? Enjoy the fun viewing our pictures :-). If you have a good eye, you will see the Western Swallowtail butterfly flew into the upper left of my peak selfie.
Trail was well marked and well-traveled so no difficulties there. Very straight forward. Took a lot of pictures along the way capturing the views and nature. There were a few wildflowers in bloom, encountered a Western fence Lizard, a Black headed Grosbeak bird, and the rattler of a snake slithering into the bushes.
Strawberry Peak done and dusted! Only 3 more peaks to go!!
