Being that I live in Rancho Cucamonga, I step outside my back door and see Baldy, Cucamonga, and Ontario peak daily. Love it up there but decided to take that loooooong drive to Los Padres National Forest and give Sawmill a “peak” (see what I did there).  Still a lot of snow….well what was previously known as snow….today it’s officially changed it’s name to ICE! Left the Nordic Station early, so the temps were still low. We had a great time, even though we lost the trail on multiple occasions. In the later hours, as it warmed up, there were plenty of spots that were seriously just like walking through a 7-11 slurpee, but totally manageable. Used our micro spikes the entire time. All in all, worth the drive to see something different. ***Disclaimer*** always Always ALWAYS check road conditions THE EXACT MORNING you’re leaving for an adventure, after a storm. This actually was the second time we attempted to do Sawmill. First time, the night before we left, the road was open. Didn’t check the conditions the following morning and when we got there, it was closed. Rookie mistake. Soooooo, we hiked Frazier Mountain instead!!!
