(I did this peak in January, before I heard about the 6 pack of peak or joined this challenge)
Have you ever been sick, coughing up a lungĀ had a friend call you and had a conversation like this,
Her- my nephew is in town for Minnesota, and he has always wanted to hike up camelback. Problem is no one here can physically take him. So, I thought of you, and wondered if you would be willing to go with him?
Me- I hate camelback, it's too crowded would he be willing to go anywhere else?
Her- Well probably not. He's autistic, and he's obsessed with that mountain. He's wanted to go the last 15 years but no one ever makes it up to the top with him
Me- I understand the mission now, camelback it is. Give me a couple days to feel better ish…..
3 days later, feeling mostly ok, I went got him and took him up. And honestly I'm so glad I did. He was one of the brightest young men I ever had a chance to talk to. Very high functioning, I honestly wouldn't assume he was on the spectrum at all. It was a special day, not just for the hike, but the friendship that was made.
As for the trail conditions? It's camelback. Hasn't changed. But with the new parking situation, I hated it far less. The mountain is cool, and it gives a great view of the city. Just too many people sometimes for my liking.
