The day started as a hike to Inspiration Point via Sam Merrill trail, as we hiked up to the historical Echo Mountain near Mt. Lowe. We checked out all the old train equipment, cables, frame of old burned down mansion on the hill, and yelled out hello into the canyon. After the echos of hello came back to us, we made our way up to Inspiration point. I had never been to Inspiration point, so we relaxed a little bit having lunch, a little hammock time, and then head over to Muir Peak which was less than a mile away. We took a few pictures, and then started back along the trail to loop around Mt. Lowe and go back down the mountain. When we came to the loop, we saw a sign that stated Mt. Wilson trail 3.1 miles, and we saw Mt. Wilson in the distance. We then decided to take a different route that day and started along dirt road passing Upper Sam Merrill trail, past Tom Sloane Saddle, went through tunnel overlooking Mt. Markham, and made our way to Mt. Wilson Red Box Road. We then hiked another 3 miles on the road up to Mt. Wilson Peak for a total of 15.13 miles. When we got to the Mt. Wilson, we had noticed a gentleman that was having car trouble of which we helped out, and in return, he asked if we'd love a ride down the mountain that we happily agreed. I guess this was the one time I'd say that having the ability to drive up and down Mt. Wilson had paid off for me after a long day of hiking 15+ miles seeking out the path less traveled.
