Wow…did not expect this level of workout. This was the final big hike of the year for me and my spouse. Having finished the SoCal Peak Challenge and summitting San Gorgonio just a few weeks prior, this should have felt easier. Well not so, this hike is up and down, up and down, and then up and down some more. And the ups are not gentle ups, we're talking some steep inclines. The final 1/4 mile was more like a stair climb and the vast majority of our energy was sapped on the way up. The climb “down” was mentally and physically exhausting and we gassed out somewhere on the way back, so the last couple miles ended up being a silent grumpy trudge. We are up to 51 hikes for the year as of this post and we take the same volume of water for every hike, this is the only hike of the year where we used all our water…not sure how this is done when it's any warmer (around 70 degrees on the day of our hike).
Was it worth it…of course! Great views from the top. Assuming the cloud cover is high, you can catch glimpses of the San Diego skyline and the ocean along the way.
