I hiked Mt. Elden on a beautiful sunny day.  It was very windy which was nice and cool on a bright sunny day.  I got started at about 11am.  With stopping, taking pictures and soaking in the views, the hike took me 3hrs 53mins.  The winds were gusting around 50mph at the top and it was awesome to experience!  The trail on the way up is mostly protected from winds coming from the South so it didn't make the hike unpleasant at all.  Beautiful views!  The aspen trees near the top are spectacular.  I wanted to keep going onto Sunset Trail and see Shultz Creek Trail, but my wife was waiting for me at the trailhead and I was only prepared for the Elden trek.  I will definitely return again to experience those trails.  Trekking poles on this trail are very helpful and there are no streams or water sources that I saw.  This hike came at the tail end of a five day camping trip in the Flagstaff area.  We camped near Upper Lake Mary and had two days of hiking on the AZT exploring several lakes that were full and we had them all to ourselves.  Very peaceful!  Lower Lake Mary was full to the brim which we had never seen before and we paddled it on our paddle boards.  The Eldon hike was a great way to cap off an amazing camping trip!  FYI…the trailhead parking lot fills up quick because this is a popular trail and easy to access.
