I drove out and got started just before 8am. No other cars where in the parking lot. With the road reported to be closed I headed up the Azalea Glen trail. As I headed up I ran into one of the biggest rattlesnakes I’ve seen in years. He didn’t make any noise, but his head did come up on me. Glad I approached from the tail. I ended up joining the road and headed upwards. Talked to construction workers and they had no problem with me using the road. They are planning to start paving soon and when that occurs no one will be allowed up. I didn’t spend much time at the top, instead headed down as it was hot. The hiking towards the top was the most enjoyable. Thanks for a new hike out of my normal area.
