The first 5 mikes of this hike are in the lush forest along side a low running creek. There is plenty of shade. The terrain is a mix of wooden stairs, rock stairs and dirt trail. We started at 10 am since we traveled 2 hours from Sacramento.
once you come out of the forest at the Pantoll camp ground and cross Panoramic Highway you are on paved and gravel roads full of mountain bike riders. It was hot and there was little shade.
We stopped at the West Point Inn to rest and fill our water.
once we reached the summit the views were 360degrees snd beautiful despite the smoky air due to the Caldor fire.
it took us 4 hours and 45 minutes to complete 14.32 mikes with an elevation gain of 2727
